Description
| Nordconnect is a project organisation of the Northern Netherland Provinces. It was set up in 2006 and is concerned with the establishment of international networks at public administration level in order to agree on favourable international trade regulations. The project is financed through the provincial funds of the Northern Netherlands Provinces (Drenthe, Friesland, Groningen). Nordconnect stimulates international networking activities between the public administration of countries within the Northeast Corridor, ranging from the West of the Netherlands along the coastline to St. Petersburg, Russia. The Northern Netherland Provinces regard themselves as an important network broker between public administrators within this axis and they are also represented with an office in St. Petersburg. Nordconnect has no direct contact with individual firms but collaborates with the chamber of commerce North Netherland who is in direct contact with SMEs in Northern Netherland. The network brokering activities of Nordconnect and the chamber of commerce are therefore complementary. Nordconnect focuses its network brokering activities on the identified spearheads for economic development in Northern Netherland: “The reason why we focus on our spearheads it that specialising on a number of clusters works best within Europe. This development is visible in a lot of other parts of Europe.” The network support action is regarded as a success because in the past, networking activities within countries of Northern Europe have been neglected for a long time. Networking activities organized by Nordconnect are thus receiving much attention. |
